Placing a rug at the foot of the bed is a popular choice but the best option is to place your rug under the bed and bedside tables, with an equal part of it exposed on both sides is ideal because it creates balance and ties the whole room together.
It really comes down to your room layout and personal preference though, so there is no right or wrong as long as you love your rug!
