Freshening up your home's look can be done without spending loads. If done right, it will still give you the same look and feel as buying something new. Here are our tips for decorating on a budget:
Make it yourself. You don't have to be a builder, designer or good at sewing to get a bit crafty. This could be anything from pillowcases, to headboards and coffee tables (if you know how), to artwork.
Speaking of artwork, frame an illustration from a book or magazine. Just cut the pages out and pop them into a frame. Who knows, you might even find you like so many that you have a whole series to frame.
Give your current furniture a facelift. Repair broken hinges or give your walls a fresh coat of paint. Another great idea is to paint hand-me-downs or op shop finds a fresh, bold colour. It will look totally different and brand new! You can pretty much spray paint anything, from picture frames, lamps, mirror frames, door knobs, kitchen, and bath fixtures.
If you wish you had higher ceilings, a great tip to get the attention away from low ceilings is to have vertically long furniture so that the eye follows the line up, making it appear higher than it actually is.
Fancy vases aren't cheap so many are trying their hand at DIY-ing glass jars and vases. You can coat the interior with bright enamel paint or try spray painting.
Head to the local op shop and find a silver tray to help you keep clutter to a minimum. Not only that, but it looks great. Use it in the kitchen as your coffee station or in the bathroom as a little beauty essentials station.
Move your décor, smaller furniture pieces and area rugs around or to a different room to achieve a new look altogether. This will breathe new life into your rooms without even spending a dime.
