What fibres should I use to make a custom rug?

Beautiful sari silk yarn ready for making a handcrafted rug

The best fibre to use in your custom rug is dictated by a number of factors:

  • Design
  • Volume of traffic
  • Area of use
  • Personal choice etc

Colourful POM kit which is used to select the perfect custom made rug.

There is no hard and fast answer but as a rule of thumb; If the rug is to be used in a high traffic area such as a hallway, family room or under a dining table then a rug with a high percentage of wool would be advisable. In a formal lounge room or a bedroom a wool and silk mix, or even a pure silk, could offer an air of luxury and softness suitable to the ambience. The choices are endless and we have numerous samples available for you to view and borrow to assist in your decision.
