What Your Decorating Palette Says About You

18 July 2016

Have you ever wondered why you opt for certain colours when decorating your home? It may be because of your personality. Here's the lowdown on what the colours you choose says about you:

Soft, warm shades like oranges and yellows often means that like those colours, you're cheerful, have a welcoming personality, are friendly and nurturing.

While pink doesn't necessarily mean you're girly and feminine, it means you get bored easily and like to seek new experiences and surroundings. You probably love to travel!

Soft, cool hues like blues, lavenders and greens are colours we associate with nature. They're something we perceive as calming and soothing, so blue means you have a no-nonsense attitude to tasks, view your home as an oasis away from the hectic world and may be a bit of an introvert. Whereas electric blue means you have a dynamic personality.

Bright jewel tones like ruby, emerald, sapphire and amethyst are standout colours, meaning you're probably outgoing, confident, creative and want to be inspired by your surroundings.

Decorating with light green means you're compassionate, a good listener and are gifted with the ability to put others at ease.

Similar to light green, bright green means you exude positive energy, have a "we can make it happen" philosophy to life, are friendly and sociable.

If your décor skews towards brown, you tend to take responsibility seriously, are hard working and value the respect of those close to you.

Not many people feel comfortable decorating with black or charcoal because it can have a constricting and gloomy effect. But if you're doing it right, using black means you're elegant, precise, perhaps a bit complex and mysterious too.

If you gravitate towards neutrals like gray, white and beige, this isn't saying that you're boring. In fact, you may be on to something since this palette allows you to use colour in accessories and to play around with textures. Neutrals means you're likely to be practical, like consistency and are efficient.
