50 Shades of Grey Rugs

26 June 2015

Can you believe that today's trendiest neutral, grey, was once considered drab and dull? Grey is a more elegant neutral that gives depth to subtle colours and makes bold tones pop. It is versatile, stylish, luxurious and very 'vogue.' Grey went 'mainstream' a few years ago and has not gone out of fashion since.

Grey is technically not a colour, sometimes it looks black, sometimes blue or cream. There are lots of shades of grey. The question to ask is whether you want to go warm or cold?

Using a lot of grey will make your room look industrial but the right balance will make it cosy, calming and sophisticated. Since grey is not a dynamic colour, it allows you to use other pops of colour or focal points in your room, like a cowhide rug.

Grey can also work to the opposite effect by being a remedy to décor mistakes. For example, if you bought a bright yellow arm chair and think it's too loud, you can downplay it with a grey area rug to soften it.

While many décor styles work well with grey, it goes particularly well with contemporary, industrial and monochromatic interiors. Grey is largely considered masculine especially when featuring clean, well defined lines.

Since grey is black and white combined, you can create a classical look with a combination of grey, black and white with subtle touches of red. A tip to use grey in a room is the smaller the space, the lighter the shade of grey it should be. Using grey in the bedroom can create a Parisian-like boudoir worthy of royalty.

An elegant, rich and sophisticated shade, grey blends effortlessly with other tones. It offers a timeless palette that is in no hurry to escape the interior-decorating scene. We have a wide range of grey designer rugs available, click here to pick your favourite.
