Hand tufted rugs are a fairly modern style of making handmade rugs. Unlike hand knotted rugs, hand tufted rugs are made without tying knots so only takes a fraction of the time.
Instead, hand tufted rugs are made by pushing yarn with a tool called a 'hand tufter' or tufting gun, through a mesh canvas backing stretched on a frame. After this process is done, the rug is removed from the frame and a craftsman uses a latex glue to hold the 'tufts' in place. When the glue dries the rug is then covered by a final protective cloth backing.
This method of making rugs creates a highly durable and accurate handmade rug that will endure foot traffic for a number of years.
The density in hand tufted rugs is determined by the number of lines that run across a foot or 30.48cm. Our hand-tufted rugs are available in 80, 100 and 120 lines. Click here to see our hand tufted products.
