Why do your rugs take so long to make?

27 February 2020

On average The Rug Establishment custom hand knotted rugs take between 3 and 6 months to make and the length of time required is impacted by a large number of factors.

Obviously the larger a rug is the longer it is going to take to make, the more detail a rugs has also require additional time. This may seem like a long period of time but it is important to remember that all handmade rugs require a number of skilled artisans at every step of the way to ensure your individually designed custom rug meets your requirements.

From the original drawing, to the preparation and dying of the yarn through knotting, binding, finishing, washing and drying (which can take a long time during the wet season) and packing this is a completely hands on process, attention to detail is paramount! Then we have to add freight time from one country to another, sometimes this feels like the longest period, but we assure you we utilise some of the most efficient air freight carriers in the world to expedite the process.

So whilst your Rug Establishment rug, may take some time to take pride of place in your home, you can be confident that it is a high quality product that is uniquely handmade just for you!
